NEWS HEADLINES FOR 0428-15

Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a May 12th meeting with Arkansas Nuclear One officials in Russellville, to discuss the agency's 2014 assessment of safety performance for Arkansas Nuclear One and action to be taken. Arkansas Nuclear One is in Column 4 of the agency's review status, after incidents in 2013 and 2014, and will receive the highest level of oversight. There are five columns in the matrix with Column 1 requiring a baseline level of inspections; plants in Column 5 are not permitted to operate. The NRC increases the level of oversight and inspection as plant performance deteriorates. The meeting, which will be open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. that evening, in the Lakepoint Conference Center. In addition to presenting their assessment of plant performance, the NRC staff will be available to answer questions from the public on the safety performance of Arkansas Nuclear One, as well as the NRC's role in ensuring safe plant operation.
